FYI - I am seeing a lot (10-20% of queries) on secure.wikimedia.org return proxy errors, since the recent outage. I had been hoping it would just go away, but the rate is still high...

I'm an administrator on the English language Wikipedia, and an OTRS member. On general principles, given those levels of access, unsecure web credentials usage is a no-no (and there's no unsecure access to OTRS and I think the OTRS wiki...).

George: For what it's worth, it seems to be working fine for me here. Maybe someone else can replicate...

I've been having the same problems for a while now. A reload usually fixes the problem, though, so I haven't bothered to try and figure out under which circumstances these errors appear.

I've also been able to reload my way out of it when it happens, but the total rate (proxy errors per initial page / access attempts) is high enough to mention at least... 10% plus is pretty noticeable. There may have been periods where it was less failure, but it's been that high for some extended periods I've tried to use it since the outage.
It's not a real priority, but irritating enough to bring up. I'd rather me be irritated by this than anything be down with the main insecure site, but if the admins have a chance to look into this I for one would appreciate it.
RobH will be installing a new secure gateway (gilman) shortly. It was racked some hours ago.

I don't see how that will help, considering how lightly loaded the current secure server is.

Should be fixed now. Apparently someone reduced the request timeout to 5 seconds during the downtime on the 24th.
