I never understood why Wikipedia doesn't just fix its broken styles. It missed some instances where the background was declared white when it changed the colors, is all.

The style's broken in the first place, IMHO -- the table background definition is a hack in MonoBook for floated tables next to section headers.
It's not a particularly good hack, and causes trouble elsewhere.
