Subject: [Wikitech-l] Updated HTML static dumps? Please?
The HTML static dumps are incredibly useful, since
they are the easiest
form
of Wikipedia to use offline - rendering the XML files
is very difficult,
since there is not even a good Wikitext specification available. I have
been
experimenting a lot with different ways of viewing
content offline -
hugely
useful in countries like Indonesia, where internet
access is hard to come
by...
However, the static dumps have not been updated since December! It even
says
on the page that the December dumps are still in
progress - which they are
not! They are finished and all exist on the page (which I pointed out
several months ago).
So we _really_really_ need updated static HTML dumps of all the
Wikipedias.
And I also really want stripped down HTML dumps of the
English, that
doesn't
include user pages and discussion pages.
I'd really like an update on this!
