I invested a lot of efforts to fix (implement) "add git HEAD commit date to Special:Version for core and extensions" and deeply wish that I can stop my daily rebasing ..
that it will become part of the core.
Can someone please merge, thanks.
The code fulfilly all requirements, and has now the correct code in Installer.php for testing the presence of git or git.exe, which is definitely required to obtain the correct commit date, which cannot otherwise fetched from the git objects.
