Wouldn't that further reduce participation?
Possibly. As stated above we didn't greet each user joining #wikimedia-dev. We could have missed users joining for the Bug Day because we did not want to increase the noise. If we use #wikimedia-office, we believe users who join the channel during Bug Days would most likely join because they want to participate in the Bug Day, so we can engage them without worrying about disrupting others. However, we did get help from developers in #wikimedia-dev, so I see your concern in that respect. I think we could post questions we have during the Bug Day to #wikimedia-office first, and if it's not solved in that channel, we can ask in #wikimedia-dev.
This is not a permanent change. It's something we want to try to see how it works. If it's not an improvement, we'll try something new or go back to #wikimedia-dev.
Thank you for hosting this. While I couldn't make this one, I hope to help out in a future bug day!
Thank you for your feedback, and feel free to make suggestions. I look forward to working with you on a future bug day. :)
