Well, that's the whole issue. I, Jimbo Wales, etc. disagree. We think a large number of the less technically-inclined are probably scared off by this kind of stuff, rather than ignoring it as they should.
It may be that there's a lower comparative number of first-time edits by "less technically-inclined" people because of that. I suppose I was referring more to successful first edits than first-time viewings of an edit page that led to an actual, useful edit.
