My main trick for moving items between columns on a board that has a lot of columns is to zoom my browser out so far that the text is microscopic (and all the columns are visible). Then use the browser find feature (Ctrl-F) to highlight the task you want to move, so you can see it. Then drag it. For me, that's easier than coordinating the "scroll while dragging" operation.
My main trick is a Greasemonkey script to narrow the columns to fit the screen. The non-boilerplate bit is
GM_addStyle(".aphront-multi-column-fixed .phui-workpanel-view, .phui-workpanel-view .phui-header-shell { width: auto; }");
Amazing how people deal with such an inconvenience! IMHO a simple keyboard shortcuts (h j k l) could do wonders!

Thanks everyone for your input. I'll try to request the Create Project permission and will try with Sprints/mini sub-projects.
