I don't assume that. I assume that many will be sufficiently averse to WYSIWYG editors, based on prior negative experiences with them, to not want to. But I also assume that if there are no areas in which the editor is genuinely lacking compared to wikitext editing, they'll quickly get used to it, like it or not.
I disagree, entirely.
You're indifferent to those who are turned off by wikitext, and suspect that they aren't too numerous. I'm indifferent to those who are turned off by WYSIWYG, and suspect that they aren't too numerous. Fair's fair, hmm?
I am not indifferent to those who are turned off to wikitext. I actively think they're lazy, and disinclined to learn about the world around them.
But I realize that they exist, and I understand that some of them have contributions to make to Wikipedia.
As for people who are turned off by WYSIWYG... you're generalizing from me, and I don't think that's reasonable, either. I'm not "turned off" by WYSIWYG. I just feel that there are good reasons why it's not necessarily the best solution *in this particular use case* -- particularly if it's implementation *penalizes* the people who prefer not to use it.
Please, let's not mischaracterise my opinion just because we don't agree with it.
