Maybe we need 2 database servers: one for reading and writing articles; the other for maintenance functions, occasional testing, updating watchlists, lengthy searches, etc.
We have on order a database server of nearly equal capacity to geoffrin, and so this is indeed the plan -- to have the primary and a replicated secondary, to be used as a realtime backup in case of trouble, but also with the possibility of doing some heavy lifting on the secondary without annoying regular users.
So, yes, that's the plan.
It'll only be fully implemented after we (a) get the new servers installed (b) migrate to the new servers (c) ship Geoffrin out here, AFTER Penguin gets the damned thing working right, no excuses.
