Unfortunatelly not everywhere: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:ParserFunctions#note_on_usage_of_whitesp... shows a *general template* example with a parameter having a trailing new line which will breake in a construct as [[user:{{{bar}}}|{{{bar}}}]].
the last two test regarding {{#if: ... }} render fine http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:ParserFunctions#Notes_on_syntax
http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=05121 relates also to list items where a new line would break the syntax
