Just to be clear, do you mean MediaWiki or Wikimedia users (Wikimedia = Wikipedia and related sites. MediaWiki = anyone who uses the MediaWiki software)?
I mean MediaWiki, you are right maybe I didn't make it clear.
You can make any sort of MediaWiki extension you want, even if it duplicates another extension, and people may use it. For Wikimedia, probably only one extension would be chosen. Wikimedia also generally has very picky standards for using extensions, and it can be a lot of work (and politics!) to get an extension used on Wikimedia wikis. The existing 2 factor auth extension is (AFAIK) only used on wikitech, which is kind of different from being used on other Wikimedia wikis, so most wikis have no 2 factor auth solution deployed to them. I would definitely reccomend coordinating with people working on similar extensions.
Sorry for the missunderstanding, what I write is an extension for MediaWiki not Wikimedia.
I will ask my question, even though I'm starting to think that I just mixed up MediaWiki and WikiMedia:
In order to add a digital latch to an account there is a need to add an input text field under the user prefferences account I attach a diagram to clarify this and also an screenshot that I just took from tuenti (is a social network used in Spain, kind of like facebook, that uses Latch).
So I need to know if I can add this input text in the mediawiki user page under "prefferences".
I would definitely reccomend coordinating with people working on similar
extensions.
Ok, I will do so.
Thank you for your time, Paula.

Gracias por tu tiempo.
Un saludo, Paula.
