Hi Aditya, let me be more precise, before someone licitly thinks/says that a GSoC project relying on major changes in mediawiki.org is more than risky...

The purpose of this project is to address the problem that mediawiki has over 2000 extensions and there exists no proper catalog to manage the information and make it easily available for wiki user's. My proposal focuses on taking the few beginning steps that will help Mediawiki to achieve a fully functional catalogue in the future. It majorly involves working on a Rating system and Data syndication to MW.org.
Copied from the proposal:
"Currently, a third party site Wikiapiary.com maintains data on extensions in a structured manner and and is tracking MediaWiki use in the wild. The idea is to make this process more intuitive and ensure good browsing experience, by making enhancements to Wikiapiary to accommodate more information about extensions in a structured manner and integrate some form of user feedback system while also improving the overall user interface to enrich user experience. Along with this, the plan is that this extended information gained on WikiApiary will be syndicated back to MediaWiki.org ."
In other words, this is a project for http://wikiapiary.com that aims to generate useful information that could be syndicated or copied automatically to mediawiki.org
Please read through my proposal and share your thoughts on this on the Talk page so that I can improve it further and make it up to the community's expectation.
