MediaWiki's data model is all about relations, and DB access is all about SQL - so adding NoSQL support would equate to a rewrite almost from grounds up. Of course, we either use or can use NoSQL in some places like object cache or external storage, which still doesn't allow us to claim NoSQL support in general.
