Verdy_p (Philippe Verdy) is not a MediaWiki developer (or WMF employee), so there is no need to pay attention to his bizarre claim that Links is deprecated (it isn't).

I really, really don't think that it was ever _declared_ as deprecated, in any RFC or major architecture document . If it was, I'd like to read where.
That said, in practice Visual Editor treats characters that come immediately after links differently:
- If the caret is at the end of link, but inside the highlighted link
area, then it becomes Links. It's a bit longer syntax, but functionally it is what the user usually wanted to happen, so it's not a problem. It is, in a way, a little step towards the de-facto deprecation on "Links". There is a Phab task about it: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T50463 .
- If the caret is outside the highlighted link area, it becomes
Link<nowiki/>s. Technically it's kind of correct, but I went over hundreds of edits where this happened in Hebrew and English Wikipedias, and in _none_ of these edits it was what the user actually intended. It might be different for other languages, and if there are such languages, I'd like to know what they are. There's a whole family of Phab tasks around it, such as https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T39939 , https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T128060 , https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T129778 and more.
https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T47126 is not totally unresolvable. It's more like blocked by https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T69223 .

I think this may be of a wider interest. Is Links syntax really deprecated? I never read about this anywhere. From when? Is it subject to removal? Should all guides be updated and links corrected by bot?
