Even though I agree with you and would like to see the behavior from de and fr to be default, there should be a possibility to switch to the old style. I like the way the edit section links are set up on de and fr; there also used that way on the english wikiversity: http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Monobook.js In that configuration, the edit link is read after the section title and no brackets are read, so I think it makes more sense from an accessibility standpoint. I also think there should be an option to revert to the old behaviour, probably in special:preferences so it's easily accessible.
