This means we say "you no can has cache" to people using shared hosts. Do we really want to do that? If so, the docs ought to be updated, and the deprecation announced.
In my opinion we should completely drop support for shared hosts. It's 2013 and virtual hosts are cheap and superior in every way. Supporting shared hosting severely limits what we can do in the software reasonably.
