Hi,
The idea behind a News Ticker is to keep the User updated with the latest News. By this, he doesnt need to go to http://en.wikinews.org or http://www.bbc.co.uk http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/ or anyplace else. he can stay on the page & get the news with the help of a small horizontal News ticker & get the News feed from an RSS.
I was fascinated by the idea whenever I go to BBC's website.
I tend to remain up to date with all thats happening around the world. So it might have been my inherent need for being updated that may have led to this idea.
Cheers,
