Well the more I think about this, the more "backlink=" starts to make sense...

One potentially limiting factor, though; what sort of formatting can be done inside an attribute like that? For example, if the reference is to a website one might want to include a link to a specific page or anchor in that "section" text. Or one might conceivably want to get fancy with styling for some reason. I'm not too familiar with the general conventions of XML but I'd expect that nesting tags inside of attributes is bad form.
