Not surprising. zhwiki has one of the best-looking Main Pages around. :)
It would be great if it were possible if some wmf effort could go in to this. Going in there and asking where we could use help would be a nice step in the perceived situation where the wmf forces things on the projects. Offering help with browser testing as well as offering tips on the design (but not pushing them) could win many friends.
Obviously, everybody will hate any and all change, but that's a different issue.
