I like the start. We definitely need a new look for the front-end. Whether or not that's accompanied by back-end software changes is a separate issue, and indeed I'm inclined to keep the two apart to take advantage of our diversity of talents: coders generally aren't good artists, and vice versa.
I'm still working on cleaning up the wikitext syntax before I'd consider doing any major back-end work.
