Well I think we agreed before somewhere that we should not use Composer for installation of MW extensions, and that MW is in dire need of its own extension management code. *--* *Tyler Romeo* Stevens Institute of Technology, Class of 2015 Major in Computer Science www.whizkidztech.com | tylerromeo@gmail.com

Fusing #PHP communities: Promising discussions on code reuse in #MediaWiki through #composerphp this afternoon at @wikimedia, thanks @robla! https://twitter.com/naderman/status/260918497276731392
What is the status on this discussion? Are we planning to use Composer in the future? This sounds really exciting!

Thankfully, I think there is already a dependency manager that we can build on.
I'm talking about Composer (http://getcomposer.org/).
Of course, MediaWiki isn't aware of this dependency manager and so MediaWiki's extensions aren't either. I've only looked at it briefly, but it appears that adding support wouldn't be difficult at all -- it would just mean adding a file to the git repository.
What do you think?
