My idea is to transform the discussion pages to a real forum, as known from phpBB, Woltlab Burning Board or vBulletin.
I think everyone will agree that some move to incorporate the advantages of forum systems within the context of the wiki would be a good idea. Let's face it, wikis just *aren't* suited to linear discussions. *But* the fact that everything within a MediaWiki wiki is
- well, within the wiki - has it's advantages too, and I (and, I
suspect, many others) would be wary of just plain ripping out the discussion pages and putting a forum in instead. Better to improve what we have than to replace one set of flaws with another.
I agree, did you get a look at extensions/wikiforum.php written by aoineko ?
In short words it add a new namespace Thread and a special page Forum. This page display links to Y last modified page in this namespace + X last modified page displayed inline (X < Y). Page are normal page so can be moved get history etc. It seems a much simpler solution to this problem. A few things should be added, like a link in each page to the Special page, perhaps some change to Search only in this namespace when doing a search from a page in this namespace. Last time I tried thread names with accented char was broken too.
Note this was not intended as a replacement of talk page but just as replacement of village pump. Anyway I don't see any real use of forum like things for talk page except if we want to start to dicuss more than to work :)
Aoinkeo any progress with wikiforum ?
