We're working on a complete re-write of MW in Perl. Well not exactly a port, but we like lots of mediawiki features, and will be really looking at it for tips, we just like perl more and need a few things customized to work with our goal instead of the messed up wikimedia one; including a lot more support for integration between wikis on a network.
Perl?
You're kidding right?
Is there some rule that says mediawiki must be written in a language which encourages, nay demands!, unmaintainable results?
No, there isn't. That's probably why they're using Perl instead of Visual Basic.
Bad coding practice creates unmaintainable code, not Perl.
