The date is earlier than usual in the month due to scheduling constraints. This month's meetup will focus on the 2030 strategy recommendations, and will be divided into two discussions of one hour each. Error codes for parameter validation errors are changing. Among others, "noX" becomes "missingparam" and "unknown_X" becomes "badvalue". Various unusual values for integer-type parameters will no longer be accepted, basically anything that isn't an optional ASCII sign ('+' or '-') followed by ASCII digits. (very) Brief WMCS + wikitech outage Monday 2020-02-10, 15:00 UTC

On Monday we'll be restarting the database server that supports most WMCS services. During the restart various things will fail: Wikitech pages will fail to load, OpenStack API calls will fail, etc. In all cases if you encounter an issue you can just count to 20 and try again, by which time things will most likely be back up. Active VMs, tools and other things hosted on toolforge or cloud-VPS should be unaffected. The restart will happen at 15:00 UTC on Monday -- that's 7AM Pacific Time.

My name is Peter Rushforth, and I’m with the Canada Centre for Mapping and Earth Observation, at Natural Resources Canada (a Canadian government department). We are planning a World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) workshop on maps in the Web platform (specifically HTML), together with the W3C and the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). The workshop will be collocated with the OGC Technical Committee meeting, June 15-17 2020 in Montreal, Quebec. I am sending this email to see if Open Street Map (especially the Web client development teams) might be interested in being invited to participate (by presenting a short position paper, in person) in this workshop on the concept of better integrating mapping into the Web platform standards, and if so, how does Open Street Map see this. Even if you believe that the Web platform standards are already good enough for mapping, it might be worthwhile staking that out as a position. If you are interested, though, we would certainly welcome OSM to also be part of the program committee. The objective of the workshop will be to start the conversation between the geospatial (and geospatial standards) and Web platform communities, about how Web standards could better serve the needs of Web mapping and most especially users of Web maps and the Web in general. [Train] 1.35.0-wmf.16 status update: Remains blocked

The 1.35.0-wmf.16 version of MediaWiki is blocked[0] from moving to group2. (A previous iteration of this mail that I sent on the 23rd of January indicated that the train had only rolled as far as group0 - that was an error on my part.) Commons Android app v2.12

Hi all, We've just released v2.12 of the Commons app to production on the Play Store[1]! :) This contains the legacy code overhaul that we've been working on for the better part of the last year, in order to reduce difficult-to-debug issues and create a better foundation for stability and further improvements. One of the goals in this overhaul is to prevent the issue of failed uploads which has plagued our users sporadically for years. According to our beta testers' feedback, this issue has been solved - however, if you are using v2.12 (can be seen in About page) on a *fresh install* and you are still experiencing failed uploads, please do let us know so we can take a look at it. Also, as this version contains the most lines of code changed compared to any of our other versions, it is possible that there may be a few teething issues that we are as of yet unaware about, but we will try to fix any reported issues ASAP. Also, we have a new feature: Filters for place types and states in Nearby Places! With this feature, you should be able to filter for (or filter out) specific types of places that need photos, and also filter out places that are on Wikidata but don't "exist" anymore.
