I have just arrived at a new client site and was handed a pile of
MediaWiki wikis, running varied versions from 1.3.5+enotif v1.2,
1.4.0, 1.4.4, and 1.4.7 (I think that's all of them). I'm looking at
an upgrade to current (1.9.3, 1.10 if it comes out in timeframe)
versions.
I've done some version upgrades before, but never from such old
versions. What risks, known gotchas, or issues am I facing here?
Should this be expected to work cleanly, do I have a major problem,
somewhere in between?
Thanks.

On MediaWiki 1.9.3 we are getting "bad title" errors if almost any
punctuation mark is included in the title.
Examples include the single quote ' and ordinary brackets ( and ) -
i.e., "normal" special characters, not weird stuff like # and & and +
(which is in any case not required in our case).
Copying $wgLegalTitleChars from DefaultSettings.php to LocalSettings.php
makes no difference; not have any of the variations on this I have tried.
I have run out of ideas to try, can anyone suggest a fix - it's driving
my users nuts.
Thankyou in advance

I don't like the changed user interface in this version.
The drop-down box for protocols means you can't just cut-and-paste a
link, making it *much* harder to use.
There's really no need for LinkSearch to know or care about what
protocols are used and recorded at the parser end; anything that doesn't
get stored just won't match.
I would strongly recommend returning to the previous state, where you
paste in a full URL, and a missing protocol will fill in with assumed
'http://'.

Hello,
is there any way, please, to get automatically all the pages included within a category by means of special:export?
That is to say, could I list
Catégorie: Naissance in 1000
Catégorie: Naissance in 1001
Catégorie: Naissance in 1002
Catégorie: Naissance in 1003
etc.
at French wikipedia and get (without listing explicitely) every article in those categories? This would allow to save a lot of work and time.
Thank you,
Claudi

Hey, I was wondering if there were any statistics breakdowns (or any
plans to make them) for Wikimedia servers for things like browsers? I
remember seeing this pop up a while back on the lists, it looks like the
more in-depth statistics charts are down (not talking about the
requests/hits ones).
