Hello,
we are evaluating the use of the Semantic Wiki Extension.
While it has great abilities, there is one big disadvantage. We are
using templates with the relevant attribute definition.
If you update the template, e.g. add a new attribute, all the articles
based on that template need to be opened and saved again.
I was wondering if it would be possible to
a) Either write an extension, where I input the name of the template and
this is done automatically (which function would I need to call with php
to update an article?)
b) Have it done automaticalley. I noticed, when you change the category
of the template, after some processing time all pages using that
template are updated and in the new category.
tx,
Gunter

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ProcessCite
ProcessCite.php is an extension to Cite.php. It
- makes it easier to add citations to the biomedical literature by
fetching reference info based on PMID from PubMed
- allows storing lists of shortcuts|references in a wiki page
(default is "$wgSitename Reference Library")
- makes the reference style consistent - using a style I arbitrarily
chose ;) -
- disambiguates some different ways to make a citation.
ProcessCite.php requires adding a hook to Cite.php. I've requested
the addition of this hook on bugzilla
http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9091
To see ProcessCite in action, see:
http://ecoliwiki.net/colipedia/index.php/Help:References
Hope this is useful to someone and that the real programmers can help
me make it better!

There was some buzz on this list a while back about supporting Usenet syntax
- such as *bold*, /italics/ and _underscores_.
I have created an extension which provides this facility, which you can read
about here:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:UsenetSyntax
I welcome all feedback - and thanks in advance to anyone who wants to give
it a shot.

The contents box seems to cause endless problems with article layout,
particularly when combined with an infobox[1], or when the intro
section is short compared to the number of sections in the article.[2]
The result always seems to be a huge white space between the intro and
the rest of the article.
Would it be possible to have the contents box appear in the side panel
of the GUI, perhaps above the toolbox? This could either be a
per-article setting or perhaps site-wide.

Hi,
I have two common requests from users of MediaWiki at my site:
1. Being able to communicate via instant messenger *through the site*,
where the chat gets recorded in the related article's Talk page.
2. Being able to edit articles by email, where the entire article gets
emailed back and forth, and emailed changes to the article get saved as
new versions.
I can imagine a technical solution for (1) being an integration of an
instant messenger server with MediaWiki which would save the IM
conversation to the relevant Talk page; and for (2) a mailing list
integrated with MediaWiki that would extract and clean up the article
from the mail (removing any indents) and save it as a new version.
My question: has anyone implemented anything like this before?
Robert.
