The READ Me is not very newbie friendly...
Don't even know what to do with the .jar file.
WHen I double click it nothing happens on my machine.
Can anyone give me more detailed instructions on what
I'm supposed to do with it?

i would like to add an extension to wp, especial to wp.de.
it is the point-mapping-extension described
the extension could help to avoid approximately the upload of several
100.000 of images which just describe the position of e.g. a city in a
how can an extension be added?
I've written two new spam cleanup scripts, an aggressive one and a targeted one. The aggressive one,
which edits as "Spam cleanup script", checks every article on the wiki against [[m:Spam blacklist]],
and reverts any matching articles back to the last revision which didn't match, or blanks the
article if they all match. It drew complaints when I ran it on some wikis, for blanking articles
which contained links to free domain services since their creation, and rightly so. It takes many
hours to run so it's difficult to monitor closely. I don't think I'll run it again on Wikimedia,
except perhaps on small, heavily spammed wikis.
The second script is a targeted script which takes advantage of the new externallinks table to
quickly find links to a given domain. It then removes the spam in the same manner as the first
script. It edits as "MediaWiki spam cleanup". In my initial test, it took 12 minutes to remove all
links to *.f859.info on all wikis. It should be possible to make it a fair bit faster than that.
I'll leave Brion to tell you about his CAPTCHA extension.

I read in an article that KDE and the foundation are announcing a
knowledge-intergrated desktop using a webservice API.
This is just great! And the idea of a SOAP/WSDL API is even better.
What is the status or are the plans on this API?
I realy would like to have the wikipedia websites to be accesible
trough a API.
I don't know and couldn't find out if there's allready a developing
team, ect on this one. But it would be a great feature which I also
want to contribute to.
So could anyone tell me the story of the API ;-)

I'm a newbie.
I installed MW 1.5.5
then I downloaded an SQL dump from wikipedia and
extracted the bzip2 to xml.
Then how do I open/install/use mwdumper to get the DB
into my mediawiki?

I'm going to be there, and I was wondering if any other MW developers
will be, too. It'd be fun to do a project during the camp.
