On the basis of my earlier foundation-l message, I've created a draft poll
for the single login strategy issue:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Single_login_poll
Please feel free to improve it or suggest changes on the talk page. I
would like to avoid adding more than the listed 3 strategies unless there
are volunteers willing to implement them.

Erik
I noticed that emails send to the mailing lists the last days sometimes takes
several hours to arrive. This is not a complaint, only a notice.

Hello,
I hate to use the browser editor when editing the article.
I hate it to cut 'n' paste into vim, because of line numbers, line
breaks, buffer size, etc.
So I created editarticle.py.
It currently runs from the commandline and is able to do only anonymous
edits. It requires pywikipediabot (latest CVS) and is included with it.
It should become available at
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/pywikipediabot/pywikipedia/ as
soon as Sourceforge got it. It's also temporarily mirrored at
http://topjaklont.student.utwente.nl/creaties/editarticle.py
The current version is 0.1.
regards,
Gerrit Holl.

Hallo,
Ich habe die 1.3.7 version von MediaWiki von Sourceforge installiert,
und es auf Deutsch configuriert.
Beim ersten Lauf vom Browser treten folgende Probleme auf:
1. Alle tabs(Navigationselemente) sind kleingeschrieben (d.h.
"einstellungen" statt "Einstellungen" usw).
2. Die Tooltips dafuer (z.b. Der Tooltip bei "einstellungen" lautet "My
preferences")
Vielen Dank,
Raul.
Hi ...
I would like to know if the development lines of mediawiki will be
extensively
tied (or slown down) because of wikipedia ...
The reason of my question, is that i am recently reading the mailing
list , and show
that developers and contributions are allways extensily closed to
wikipedia requirements,
not open to new ideas beyond enciclopedias.
A general use wiki with mediawiki engine would be great, ( i am using it
to developments
documentation) ... but it lacks features like authentication and email
notifications
(i know the 1.4 plans on this features), that i think are being slown
down by the
WIKIPEDIA ...
What is your oppinion ???
Another branch of mediawiki with general features would be great.
regards

Hello,
Mail is probably mostly intended for brion and tim as well as other
developers.
It looks like our .plan is to get 1.4 by the end of the year. I believe
we should call for a "feature freeze" soon and launch the beta at the
beginning of december.
Given that most dev will probably be out during the last weeks of
december that will let us until ~ december 20th to fix the most
important bugs. Then in January we can work toward the release candidate
/ 1.4.0.
There is two huge patch as far as I know:
- Enotif : bring email notification in MediaWiki
_ Database schema change.
Enotif can probably be commited by the end of november and be shipped in
the first 1.4 beta. Database schema changes is probably too much work
yet (note: I didn't have a look at SCHEMA branche).
In conclusion:
November:
* add Enotif
* try to update languages files
December:
* launch beta
* fix major bugs reported
* happy xmas
January:
* Release candidate (1.4.0)
Then we can work on having plugins and schema changes.
[add:
Do you agree on such a plan ?
Is there already a plan I am not aware of ?
Should we call for a feature freeze right now ?
Could an alpha version help track the most important bugs ?

I will start by admitting that I am new to Wikimedia but very much
impressed by this piece of software.
I am working a small community that consists of three parts that very
much do not work together, even so I have taken on the task to bring
PHPBB, Coppermine and Wikimedia together under one shared login.
I've managed to merge the user-databases together into one for all three
and Coppermine and PHPBB can share login session, which leaves me to
Wikimedia.
So my question is, how can I hack the login?
I can consider doing something strange like created a separate loginform
and post to a page which in turn posts to two different pages, the PHPBB
login and Wikimedia login. I've realised that Wikimedia has a class for
the login handling but I have not yet figured out how I can use it.
My thougt is that I can use this login-class on the login-page of PHPBB
and validate login there, which actually would be two different logins,
but be both should be done in the click of one button. Since username
and password are shared I can use only the validation from PHPBB and
only create the login-sessino and wikimedia, and of course, do a
similiar action when logging out.
How do I use the userlogin-class for this purpose? Is it even possible?

A new module I have written was not expressly included in the diff file
I have uploaded to bugzilla. That file is called
/maintenance/archives/patch-email-notification.sql and was my first
bugzilla upload.
Brion suggested to use the option -N. However, this does not work. Here
is the full command I use now, but this does not include the code of my
local new file in the diff file:
phase3> cvs -d :pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/wikipedia
-z3 diff -N -u -b > myfiles_against_cvs14.diff
Can you please help me, how to modify the above command, so that the
(full) code of my new file is inlcuded in that
myfiles_against_cvs14.diff file ?

Webalizer statistics on http://en.wikipedia.org/stats/
haven't been updated since October 18th. This is a tragedy.
It's been shaky since September 23rd, but July and August were fine.
What's wrong? Can anybody fix it?
