The biggest German meta-search engine MetaGer
(http://meta.rrzn.uni-hannover.de) would like to have us integrated.
There would be a switch which is set on *off* per default, so we'll get
about 10.000 queries per day. (If it's set *on* per default we'll get
about 200.000 queries per day.)
I think atm neither is possible, but when the new server is up and
running will we be able to handle the traffic?

I've just created a new page on meta. It is:
http://meta.wikipedia.org/wiki/Development_status
From the intro: "This page is intended as a place where developers can
write their intentions for future development, and maybe even coordinate
with each other (however unlikely that may be). Also, it should describe
the current state of the two CVS branches and the live copy."
At the moment it's basically a personal to do list, but I'd be very
happy if everyone else working on the PHP script also used it. It's
similar to [[meta:Development tasks]] except it contains stuff that's
actually going to happen in the forseeable future, and it says when it
will happen.

Daylight Savings Time ended in most of North America and Europe over
this last weekend (Early in the morning on Sunday Oct 26, to be
exact).
It's worth noting that the Mediawiki software is not aware of daylight
savings changes. I live in Montreal, and my offset was stuck at -4
until I went to Special:Preferences and did a "Fill in from Browser"
to make it -5.
I thought this would be worth noting. I wonder if using symbolic
timezones (Eastern Time, Western European Time, etc.) would make this
less of a problem.
I also figure it's probably worthwhile to make a note somewhere on
Mediawiki sites telling registered users to reset their offsets.

I just recently installed the wikimedia software by downloading the
tarball listed on the site, and following the install steps.
Which were to cp Localsettings.sample and Adminsettings.sample to the
same name with a .php extension and editing
The information, I had the database dump downloaded also (cur) and had
the appropriate users put in. Once I ran the
Install.php script it installed it in the proper directory. And once I
went to my browser and loaded wiki.phtml I get the following

I am curious why the note that I sent about this issue seemed to end
the thread, with no follow-up. Has this kind of option been rejected in
the past? This seems to be a fairly standard security/authentication
issue and I believe that the technology I suggested is the kind of
thing that would be fairly obvious. Am I wrong about something here?
Just to add, with a authentication architecture, you could much more
easily offer offline editing with subsequent re-integration of the
content. Or am I swimming against the current here?
thanx - ray
