Wow! I never heard of this before ... how is it being advertised? From the archives, I see it's been set up since June but it only looks like there are three or four on the list (or at least that all that have posted to it) ... is this true?
I posted at message on the Irish Wikipedian's Notice board two weeks ago about forming a Wikimedia chapter in Ireland (got one "maybe" back and Bastun posted a fair funny comment on my talk) ... but I didn't know about this at all!
A meet-up sounds like the first step to anything ... and something positive, anyway: those of us involved in Ireland-related articles are probably less like to end up Wiki-murdering each other if we had a face to put behind the screen name.

Hi Oliver
there are at least 22 people subscribed to the list, we advertised it on the Irish Wikipedian noticeboard as well as on various member's talk page... now we've set up a geonotice for it.
I'd certainly like to meet some Irish Wikimedians when I'm there next week...plan on being in Dublin on the 16, and leaving on the 17th...the rest of my trip we'll be touring. Not having been there, I have no way of making plans for a meetup, and was hoping someone would step forward with suggestions.

Sorry, Cary. I'm not from around Dublin, got work on Monday and will be flying out on my own holidays on the 19th. It would be a good idea (I think) for Irish Wikipedians to meet up. I saw in the archives of Sarah777's talk page that it had been floated at least once before (while I was on my hiatus from WP).
Let's us know how you get on in the Emerald Isle. Head west out of Dublin: Clare, Galway (Mayo if you're rally adventurous!), that's real Ireland.

Actually we're renting a car and seeing Mayo and Galway. And thanks :)

Nice one! Assuming you're HQ'ed in Galway, here's a round-trip that will test your skills at avoiding sheep, staying out of the sea and challenge your perception as to what qualifies as a two-way road:

That's a great route, but it appears to miss the number one spot we want to visit, the Knock Shrine!
By the way, all tourism photographs I'm going to take on my trip are going to be eligible for upload on Commons, and therefore am taking any requests to fill out my touring!

Make sure you take a peak at these categories: * http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Wikipedia_requested_photographs_in_the... * http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Wikipedia_requested_photographs_in_Ire...
If you guys are still figuring out what you'll do, some places I remember as being pretty cool: * http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_of_Kerry (beautiful views along most of the route, I think this might include the suggested route he gave)) * http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cliffs_of_Moher
This page also looks like it gives a nice list of things to do: http://infoireland.wordpress.com/2008/07/08/10-things-to-do-in-ireland-before-you-die/

Hahah, the "car falling off the cliff" road signs are amazing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Diamond_road_sign_unprotected_quay.svg
and challenge your perception as to what qualifies as a two-way road:
...especially when you're driving down the road and then a big huge bus or truck comes down and tries to get by :-)
