I hope my emails aren't too long for you all! ...
For me though, it's great to see so many emails and ideas. It even seems that some people have similar goals, so maybe there's some interesting projects in the future of Wikimedia Ireland.
I made a grant application to the Creative Commons Catalyst Grant scheme but found out today that I didn't get it. There will be another one next year so check it out if you're interested: http://creativecommons.org/weblog/entry/23406 (my one was Open Source Studio).
James mentioned the Educate Together schools which I was also looking into. They seem like a good place for presenting open education ideas and the like. I wasn't too impressed with that Evolutionary Biology book on Wikibooks - it wouldn't be too interesting for younger folk I imagine and schools seem like a good target. Perhaps we could get some experts to help out - http://richarddawkins.net/ is a bit of a hub for evolution enthusiasts, so I might make a post there for help or maybe even on behalf of Wikimedia Ireland when we're set up. The video at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6IrUUDboZo is amazing (I think!) and I'd like to use stuff of that quality at presentations if possible.
I don't mean to go on about evolution (it is very important though!) - I am also interested in other topics - James mentioned maths which I would be on board with. I have maths related degrees, so would be qualified to help edit that Wikibook.
I saw that a High School in Utah have released a curriculum under open license: http://creativecommons.org/weblog/entry/23357 so maybe there's some inspiration there too.
It's great that you have a spare server Oliver - it could come in handy. I think all this stuff could be related - it says Wikimedia is "dedicated to bringing free content to the world" at http://www.wikimedia.org/ so music is not too far off the mark. It may be too much for now though, so I'd happily focus on whatever we decide as a group.
It looks like this project might fly, so I hope to be able to do more very soon. Let's keep the dialogue flowing and it should work out well.
Cheers,
Conor.
