Dear Wikimedia Community Ireland,
We are inviting you to participate in Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos (WPWP)
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Pages_Wanting_Photos>, a new
global contest scheduled to run from July through August 2020:
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Pages_Wanting_Photos>
Participants will choose among Wikipedia pages without photo images, then
add a suitable file from among the many thousands of photos in the
Wikimedia Commons, especially those uploaded from thematic contests (Wiki
Loves Africa, Wiki Loves Earth, Wiki Loves Folklore, etc.) over the years.
WPWP offers a focused task for guiding new editors through the steps of
adding content to existing pages. It can be used to organize editing
workshops and edit-a-thons.
The organizing team is looking for a contact person at the Wikimedia User
Group level (geographically or thematically) or for a language WP, to
coordinate the project locally. We’d be glad for you to reply to this
email, or sign up directly at WPWP Participating Communities
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Pages_Wanting_Photos/Participatin…>
Thank you,
Deborah Schwartz Jacobs (User:Deborahjay / debjay.wpwp(a)gmail.com)

*Celtic Knot 2020 Virtual conference - Call for Papers Extended*
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this year's Celtic Knot will now take
place virtually *on 9 and 10 July* *in partnership with Wikimedia UK and
the Hunt Museum*. The call for papers has been *extended to 30 April*, and
gives flexibility on platform and format. Again, if you are working with
Wikimedia projects, or other technologies in Irish or other minority
languages, we want to hear from you. You can find out about the call and
all the other details so far on the conference page here
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Celtic_Knot_Conference_2020>.
*COVID-19 and in-person events*
In line with the Wikimedia Foundation's guidelines
<https://wikimediafoundation.org/covid19/>, Wikimedia Community Ireland
have cancelled, postponed or moved to virtual all of the in-person events
we had planned until *at least 15 September 2020*. This includes our
monthly events in TOG. We are investigating the best tools and platforms to
facilitate virtual editing evenings from 29 April onwards - watch this
space!
*Wikipedia Editing on Twitch*
In an effort to continue to reach new editors our project coordinator,
Rebecca, has begun live streaming editing tutorials through Twitch
<https://www.twitch.tv/smirkybec>. The sessions are half an hour in length,
and take place at *4pm Monday and Friday*, and *7pm Tuesday and Thursday*
(with a break for Easter!) They are also uploaded to YouTube
<https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCME0KIqk13bdfdg_fqqYISA/> and Facebook
<https://www.facebook.com/WikimediaIreland/> so you can watch them later.
If you have any suggestions for a topic to be covered by these tutorials -
please get in touch!
*Virtual events*
If you are part of a community, organisation, or institution that would
like to host a virtual editing events during the lock down and social
distancing, please get in touch. We can facilitate remote events through a
number of online platforms, and are eager to try new or innovative ways to
help new editors start editing Wikipedia. Just drop us a line:

*Documenting COVID-19 in Ireland*
While we are all observing the lock down, and maintaining the proper social
distance from others, there is a way to help document these extraordinary
times. If you have taken any photos relating to COVID-19 measures, such as
markers on floors or pavements, protective screens, physical barriers, or
event the art and interventions citizens have made, consider uploading them
to Wikimedia Commons under this category
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:COVID-19_pandemic_in_the_Republ…>.
These images will be an invaluable resource for those writing and
researching this period in the future.
