*Wikimedia Community Ireland Newsletter – August 2018*
*Wiki Loves Monuments 2018*
This year the list of eligible monuments for Ireland's Wiki Loves Monuments
has exploded - going from 1214 to 6290! You can find all of the structures
waiting for photos on our map <https://maps.wikilovesmonuments.org/ireland>,
with all of the red dots pointing to places with no photo uploaded yet.
There are canal locks, bridges, mills, market halls, churches and much more
that are all waiting to have their photo taken and win you prizes!
Submissions will open on 25 August as part of Heritage Week, and will close
on 30 September. You can find all the details here
<http://wikimedia.ie/programme/wiki-loves-monuments-2017/>.
Do you want to get involved? We're looking for this year's judges at the
moment, so do let us know if you'd like to help out. Do spread the word far
and wide, and help show off Ireland's built heritage to the world!
The UK are taking part this year, so all of the monuments in Northern
Ireland <http://www.wikilovesmonuments.org.uk/northern-ireland> are also
eligible for inclusion in their competition.
*Vicipéid*
Since the Celtic Knot conference, new to tools have been enabled on
Vicipéid. This includes improvements to the citation tool, and work on
enabling Wikidata infoboxes
<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Infobox_Tutorial> too. If you're
interested in helping out the development or maintenance of these tools, do
get in touch. You can read a report on the conference from Wikimedia UK here

.

*Octocon*
This year we are delighted to be taking part in a workshop at Ireland's
National Irish Science Fiction Convention, Octocon, this October. Two of
our volunteers will be hosting a workshop on how to edit Wikipedia, and to
draw attention to the issues relating to diversity in biographies on
Wikipedia, particularly relating to Science Fiction and Fantasy. You can
find all the details about the event and the conference here
<https://2018.octocon.com/how-to-be-come-a-wiki-editor/>.
*Getting Involved!*
Is there an event you think Wikimedia Community Ireland should get involved
in, or should look at organising? Do you have idea for an event or campaign
you'd like to work on with us? Or have any other good ideas, then get in
touch, we'd love to hear from you!
