SE reviewed the budget and schedule for the Simple Annual Plan Grant
with the group. She will submit the grant to the foundation early next week.
Edit-a-thon/Workshops
-
UCD Recap-RO held a Intro to Wikipedia with a class in UCD. She used an
interactive approach, which seemed to work well. The edit-a-thon will take
place on 23 November from 10am-1pm and is open to the public. The
students will be working on their articles and creating tutorials and
podcasts. Other participants are encouraged to work on articles on notable
UCD alumni and staff. RO will create a page for the event.

SF will be hosting a Wikipedia awareness activity at NUI Galway on 21
October. Images of the campus will be uploaded during the event. SF will
create a project page.

BA is planning a workshop in Maynooth on 8 March to celebrate
International Women’s Day.
Conferences
-
DCU Conference Workshop-11-12 November-RO will host a workshop at the
History of Science, Technology and Medicine conference.
WLM

Judging for the contest is still progressing.

The final writing event takes place at the Science Gallery on 18 October
at 6:30pm.
Misc
-
EU Copyright Reform-The group was sent an email will guidance notes on
the stance of Wikimedia on the Copyright Reforms. Some issues with the tone
of the statement were raised in the meeting. It was decided that we would
not release a statement at this time.

CDC email-The group received an email from an employee at the CDC in
America about participation at a conference in 2018. SE will reply to the
email.

Open Data strategy meeting-RO was invited to a meeting on Open Data on
25 October. RO and SE will attend.
Also a reminder that the writing contest ends on 31 October at midnight.

Simple APG-SE reported that the application needs to be in by 1 November
to have access to funds in January 2017. SE, EE, and RO will meet on 8
October to work on the grant and expand the schedule for 2017. SE will
report back to the group at the next meeting.
Edit-a-thon/Workshops

UCD workshop-12 October 10am-RO will run the initial workshop.

Herstory-SE and RO met with the Director of the Herstory Project which
aims to create biographies of Irish women who have been excluded from
history. There is a possibility of workshops to put biographies on
Wikipedia along with images, illustrations and materials to be used in
schools. RO and SE will keep in contact with the group.

Contest ended with 710 images uploaded by 119 participants.

Judging-the members of the user group who attended this meeting will
vote for the winning images. Each will choose 20 images for the main
contest and 5 for the 1916 contest for the semifinals. The top 10 and top 3
respectively will be chosen from the semifinalists.

Awards Celebration-the Liquor Rooms is a potential venue for this event.

Writing Contest Events

NUI Galway-we had a small turnout but we did get 4 new members
registered and contacts for future events at NUI Galway.

Dublin Science Gallery-This event will take place on 18 October from
6:30-8.
Misc
-
Maynooth IP access-RO conducted some research about the IP block at
Maynooth and found that this type of blockage is not uncommon. NUI Galway
was also blocked. She did discover a way to work around it.

10,000 Challenge-RO was contacted about participation in this challenge
to write 10,000 articles on the British Isles, which includes Ireland. She
began a discussion to get us involved and to also promote our writing
event.

As of this date we have 193 images uploaded, which is way down on last
year.

SE spoke to the PR company-another release will be put out and the
Galway edit-a-thon will be targeted.

SE and RO will travel to NUI Galway for the writing event on 28
September. SE will add sections to the contest page for the Galway and
Dublin events.

The Dublin 1916 Wikipedian Writers Workshop is scheduled for 18 October
from 6:30-8pm at the Science Gallery.

As part of the APG grant we will request funds to have someone work with
the data, get more of the information on Wikipedia, and work with the
government about releasing the copyright.
Misc

There have been some issues with the education extension at Maynooth
University. RO will look into it.

DA reported of the possibility of an event at UCC in the summer of 2017.
She will keep us up to date.
