Want to help make Wikimania 2009 extraordinary? Dreaming of tango lessons beneath the southern sky? Are you knowledgeable about the Wikimedia community, intrigued by the latest wiki research, passionate about teaching the projects to others and going further with free culture? Do you have some spare time between now and early summer? Are you detail-oriented, with a flair for organization and a commitment to providing fair and honest feedback? Do you speak Español or English (or better yet, both) fluently? Do you really *love* IRC meetings?
If these things are true for you, the 2009 Wikimania program committee wants you! We are looking for a few good volunteers to help with such tasks as:
* recruiting excellent speakers and brainstorming conference topics * reviewing paper and workshop submissions * producing a schedule of sessions, once selected
The program committee is a fair amount of work but also a lot of fun. This is a great way for both local and remote volunteers to help out. Program committee members will be expected to keep up with program committee mail and/or attend online meetings, review a selection of submitted papers and meet reviewing deadlines. Offers to help out in other ways are also welcome.
For questions, please contact me: phoebe.ayers@gmail.com (in English) or Carlos Barcenilla: barcexwiki@gmail.com (in English or Spanish)
If you are interested in volunteering, please reply directly to me!
best, Phoebe

Hi Phoebe,
I was part of the Online Team last year as I could not attend, and it is the same story for this year. Will there be any kind of 'Online Team' to assist with updating wiki information, etc?

Hi James,
I'm glad you want to help out again!
For now, can you list yourself here: http://wikimania2009.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Volunteers
and what you are interested in working on. Also, because you've done it before, if you could help come up with a list of tasks that need to be done on the website -- or other tasks related to the online team -- that would be super!
best, Phoebe

Dear Phoebe,
May I pass a Wikimania panel idea past you? I'd be interested in organizing a panel of people to discuss the movement from Wikipedia to print and print into Wikipedia, from the Bertelsman Wikipedia and WikiPress to the import of previously published material into Wikipedia, and so forth, with attention to the differences, limitations, procedures, licensing options, etc. Do you think this general idea would be of interest to enough people to warrant a place on the program?
Mary
