It is simply common courtesy to respond to everyone to applied, letting them know whether they were granted a scholarship or not. Not everyone is subscribed to this list, for example. I am rather shocked that at least a general "We are sorry, but we are unable to fund you" email is not being sent out to those who did not receive scholarships.
Thanks, Awadewit

Actually, I'm surprised by your shock, and saddened you didn't read my original email. This is hard enough for us to do--and we certainly appreciate people taking the time to read things thoroughly.
If you had read it, you would understand that this was not a broad applicant rejection but that most of the decisions had been made.
We have been sending out general "We are sorry" emails, to those who have already been eliminated. If you have not been sent an email, it means you're still in consideration for the remaining money left to be allocated toward scholarships, and also that we still anticipate some people would not accept the partial scholarships that were offered.

Cary, the conference is so close now, and prices so expensive, that even if I was considered in the end, it's really far too late to be able to book anything remotely within my price range. This should have been completed by early May at the very latest. My offer to help next year still stands.

In that case, let's add this to our listing of things WM2009 has to work on -- securing more sponsorship money. I'm willing to help with that as well, if need be.
