Hi, folks,
I planed to attend Wikimania this year, and the Poland consulat tell me generally they would take 3 weeks for the visa applications. Also I need invitation letters to Poland first before applying visa.
So my questions are:
- When will Wikimania open for registration? - Can I get the invitation letters on time?
Thanks for help.
Regards, Mingli
I think both wikimedia foundation or WM Poland can help you on this :p

I am not quite sure if the letter from WMF might work as the WMF is not a Polish organisation. Anyway, WMPL although is not directly organising Wikimania may send such a letter. For that purpose we need: *Full name of the applicant (as written in passport) *Passport no, home address (as written in passport) *Duration of stay in Poland (dates of arrival and coming back).
Bear in mind that the list of countries which signed an agreement with Poland about visa-free traveling is quite long. The current one can be found here:
http://www.msz.gov.pl/Countries,which,citizens,are,not,required,to,have,a,vi...
If traveling from countries from outside EU which are on visa-free list, bear in mind, that without Shengen visa you can enter Poland, but crossing border of other Shengen country (although there is no passport control in trains and when traveling by car) might be illegal, so if you plan to do this you need a Shengen visa anyway.
dziękuję Tomasz for your clarify.
I am sure Mingli need a visa, as Mainland China Gov't grant no other nationals visa-free (almost), their ppl need sort of permit even come to Hong Kong :p

Hello,
Regarding visas: we are now working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to make this process easier. The process we are going to use is to inform the MFA and the respective consulate about participants that are going to apply for a visa.
Hello Marcin,
I am not sure if your process works. Is it possible to send Mountain an invitation NOW, I think the time is running and people from China is ALWAYS difficult to get a visa speedy, just to be precautious. Please.
Thank you very much.

Hi, Marcin.
Is it possible to send invitation letters to people in Mainland China earlier? If it is possible, I can give you more detailed information.
Thanks very much.

I dunno if this idea may be help to speed up but plz do try beside sending a copy of the invitation letter to Mountain
I think Marcin or Tomasz (depends on who send the letter) shall also send a copy to the Polish MFA and ask them to fax it or send it to their consulate general in Shanghai
I hope that we speed up the process and may shorten the time they identify the document

Hi, Marcin,
Could you consider the suggestions by Ting or Yuyu? We don't want to lose a chance to attend Wikimania this year.
