Hi all,
During the Hackathon many participants were asking where to find the page
where they could sign up for supporting cuteness in the movement. That page
is on Meta at:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Cuteness_Association
Go to the section Users that support cuteness in the Wikimedia movement
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Cuteness_Association#Users_that_s…>
and add your name there.
If you have shown your support, you can get have free stickers for your
badge and laptop to show your support. (Look for me to get some!)
Romaine
PS: The board of the Wikimedia Cuteness Association is working on the
Cuteness Space Policy, to complete the Friendly Space Policy
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Friendly_space_policies> and to ensure a
save space for mascots, cuties, humanoids and any other lifeforms.
Hello
I was thinking of proposing a Wiki Loves meetup (for WLA, WLE, WLM and
any other additional Wiki Loves)
https://wikimania2017.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meetups
Looking at the program, it looks like meetups can be all fit Friday
evening and Saturday evening.
But I was wondering if anything else was planned on those evenings and
more specifically.... around dinner. How is dinner managed those days ?
Cheers
Florence
Hello, hello, dear Wikimanians,
as in previous years, we will host again a so-called "WMCON Follow-Up Day"
during the preconference of Wikimania. It will take place on August 10,
from 9:00 to 17:00 in room Joyce of the Sheraton Hotel.
The WMCON Follow-Up Day invites Wikimedians to continue conversations and
pick up topics that were discussed at the Wikimedia Conference 2017 in
Berlin. Even if you haven't attended the Wikimedia Conference, you are more
than invited to drop by.
We have now finalized the schedule: 6 exciting sessions will take place,
always two in parallel. A short list of the titles including speakers:
- *Conferences in the Wikimedia movement*, by Kacie Harold
- *Communications Committee update*, by Greg Varnum
- *Volunteer Support: What makes the difference?*, by Veronika Krämer &
Raimund Liebert
- *EU Advocacy: Next steps in the process*, by Dimitar Dimitrov
- *Partnerships in the Wikimedia movement*, by Adele Vrana and team &
Nikki Zeuner
- *Board member support*, by Frans Grijsenhout
You can find more details on wiki:
https://wikimania2017.wikimedia.org/wiki/WMCON_Follow-Up_Day
Feel free top drop by. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to send
me an email.
Best regards & see you soon in Montréal,
Cornelius

Hi all,
I would like to invite everyone interested in discussing the future
direction of our movement to join us today, Thursday, from 10:00-12:00 or
14:00-16:00 in the Movement Strategy Space (Salon 6, Level 3). We will host
two rounds of feedback on the Strategic Direction.
>From Thursday through Sunday, there will be several working sessions,
discussion rounds, informal conversations and fun. The space will be open
all day and everyone's also welcome to occasionally drop-in and explore how
the process has engaged and inspired the movement and how we can build
Wikimedia's future together. Everyone who has actively participated in the
process and the sessions is also invited to enjoy the chance to relax and
re-energize for the upcoming steps of the process. And we have stickers!

Hi everyone,
We have a robust experimental program set up to include remote participants
who want to follow Wikimania this year — and to ensure that all program
material is archived in a singular location for future use. Please feel
free to forward this email widely – or post the content anywhere you'd
like. There is also a plain-text version
<https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikimedia-l/2017-August/088307.html>
[1],
suitable for viewers and readers, that you are welcome to copy and use.
*Livestreaming and Recording Select Talks*
We are experimenting with livestreaming the keynote sessions this year
simultaneously on YouTube and Facebook Live. Here is the complete schedule
of livestreamed events
<https://wikimania2017.wikimedia.org/wiki/Livestreamed_keynotes> [2]. *Please
feel free to share this on social media, on-wiki, and with any groups you
are a part of* — we want to ensure that people who would like to tune in
know when these are taking place.
In addition, we have the equipment and staffing to record all sessions
taking place in Ballroom West. We do not have the capacity to move
equipment between rooms. You can see all planned recorded sessions
<https://wikimania2017.wikimedia.org/wiki/All_Session_Notes> [3] — these
will be posted as soon as they are encoded and uploaded to YouTube.
We will measure the success of this program and see if we can expand for
future events.
*Notetaking for every session *
Because we cannot record all sessions, we are asking for your help to
ensure that all sessions are documented for remote attendees and for future
documentation.
If you are leading a session at Wikimania this year, we are asking that you
request that someone in your session take notes. If you are attending a
session, please remind the leader to assign a notetaker (or volunteer to
take notes with others!) This will help remote participants follow talks,
and also ensure that sessions are well-documented.
Below are instructions for notetakers — this information is also available
on the speaker's page
<https://wikimania2017.wikimedia.org/wiki/Speaker_information#Notetaking_dur…>
[4]
and on the Session Notes page
<https://wikimania2017.wikimedia.org/wiki/All_Session_Notes> [3] , where we
hope to collect all session notes, recordings, and conference
presentations.
1. Copy the template here
https://etherpad.wikimedia.org/p/Wikimania2017-template [5] into a new
Etherpad file with the following naming structure:
https://etherpad.wikimedia.org/p/Wikimania2017-YourSession [6]
(Replace 'Your Session' with the name of the session you are attending or
leading.)
2. Take notes and fill out the information in the document
3. After the session, add the Etherpad link to the page where we are
collecting notes
<https://wikimania2017.wikimedia.org/wiki/All_Session_Notes>. [3]
4. Speakers, please add any links to slideshows, decks, videos, or links to
this site.
Added bonus: The All Session Notes page
<https://wikimania2017.wikimedia.org/wiki/All_Session_Notes> [3] allows you
to sort sessions at Wikimania by topic and theme. You can search for
'movement strategy' and find all of the sessions that involve movement
strategy, or 'GLAM' and find all of the sessions that are about GLAM in
some way...so it may be a useful tool to help figure out which sessions to
attend.
*Social Media: *We will be monitoring the hashtag #wikimania and
#wikimania2017 to scoop things into the @wikimania and @wikimedia accounts
on Twitter. PLEASE feel free to livetweet sessions (with permission) and
use the hashtags!
Please let me know if you have any questions, comments or concerns. We're
looking forward to ensuring that editors and readers — in Montreal and afar
— can come together and participate in Wikimania.

If you like Telegram better than IRC, and you want to stay in touch during the Wikimania days, you could consider joining the unofficial Wikimania 2017 Social group on Telegram.
In this group, the code of conduct for Wikimedia technical spaces is in effect. No idea what that means? Better read it first: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Code_of_Conduct
If you take issue with anything that happens in the channel, please contact a channel administrator.
Cheers!

Hi Wikimania attendees,
The recent speaker advice thread has prompted an unconference session
proposal for Thursday on this topic at WikiConference NA.
We welcome other session ideas at the unconference too that may arise
spontaneously, please share your ideas here:

Subject: How to watch and follow Wikimania 2017 remotely
To: wikimedia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org, wikimania-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org
Hello!
As many of you know, Wikimania 2017 will take place in Montréal, Canada
from 9–13 August.
If you cannot attend this year, there are still opportunities to follow
along remotely. Keynote sessions will be livestreamed [1] and recorded
throughout the conference on YouTube [2] and Facebook Live [3]. Additional
recorded sessions will be posted on the conference notes page [6] when they
become available. We are asking all speakers to designate a notetaker for
their session, and to copy the template [8] for use in their session.
You can also follow @Wikimania [4] and the hashtag #wikimania [5] on
Twitter. We will round up presentations and highlights for both Meta and
our blog after the conference ends. [6] You can also search the full
programme schedule. [7]
Please respond here or contact me directly with any questions or ideas to
make this experience better for remote participants.
