Announcing the Spaces and call for submissions for Wikimania 2019 Stockholm

Dear Wikimaniacs, Wikimedians, and friends of the Wikiverse! On behalf of the Wikimania 2019 Stockholm organising team, I am pleased to announce two things: - The list of accepted "Spaces". - That the Call for Submissions is now OPEN. https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2019:Submissions Please join me in congratulating the Leaders of each of the accepted Wikimania 2019 Spaces! As per the program design[1], Wikimania this year has the format of "Spaces", each with its own group of "Leaders" - all of who made a proposal to host a Space back in March. The core team has been working with the Leaders since then to prepare an interesting, diverse, and coherent conference. Each Space has its own topic area, and in their own way they all of them help address the conference theme: "Stronger together: Wikimedia, Free Knowledge and the Sustainable Development Goals".[2] Each Space will have its own room for a period of time in the conference to curate and coordinate as they see fit.[3] You can read about what each Space is planning to achieve, and who is Leading it, at the link above. In English-alphabetical order they are: - Accessibility (A11y): Components and Standards - Global Advocacy for Free Knowledge: Trends, Challenges, and Opportunities - Community Growth - Diversity - Education - Environmental sustainability - GLAM - cultural partnerships and Wikimedia - Growing Wikimedia’s readership worldwide - Health - Languages - Libraries belong in Wikimedia projects - Multimedia knowledge - Partnerships - Quality - Research - Thriving in Safety - Strategy for Wikimedia 2030 – The path towards our future - Transcription - Technology outreach & innovation And of course the Poster session, which will be a plenary event. For 2019, there is no 'central' program committee nor a single submission form. To make a submission, visit the page of the Space which most relates to your proposal, read its instructions for what kinds of submissions the Leaders of that Space wish to receive. Then click the submission button. Each Space is looking for different kinds of content or format. So it is important that people wanting to propose a presentation/workshop/panel/etc at Wikimania read the information that the Leaders of each Space have provided. Blocked rooms to discounted price

Hi all, For your information, there is now a page on the Wikimania Wiki <https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2019:Accommodation> about accommodation for Wikimania 2019 in Stockholm, and how to book rooms at a hotel to a discounted price. If you want to use that hotel, book as soon as possible as there is a limited amount of rooms to book. Also note that the rooms are available until 13 July. Regarding Wikimania Scholarships

Dear all, I thank you for your efforts. Since 2014, I have been applying for the Wikimania Scholarship. Every year, my application is not accepted. It cannot be explained since I am active online and offline for 10 years. I am a member of Wikimedia TN User Group, Wiki Project Med, WikiResearch and Wikimedia and Libraries User Group. I am also a test wiki administrator in Wikimedia Incubator. If I am blacklisted or there is any issue regarding me that do not let me have the scholarship every year, please tell me because there is not an objective reason behind this decision. Update on Wikimania proceedings

Hi all! A lot of you are probably waiting for the calls for submissions for Wikimania 2019 in Stockholm. We are happy to tell that this will be open in a very short while, and ask you to watch the conference wiki <https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2019:Submissions> for further information (though we will of course advertise it here too). This year the Call for Submissions will be a bit different than previous Wikimanias as, rather than being held through one central page and reviewed one central program committee, each Space will be requesting and reviewing submissions for their particular topic area. We are also happy to tell you that the Spaces for Wikimania are now chosen. They will be nineteen in total, and all in different ways relate to the Theme of “Stronger Together: Wikimedia, Free Knowledge and the Sustainable Development Goals. <https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2019:Theme>” The Leaders are currently preparing their pages on the Wiki, and the calls for submission for proposals will be launched when they are all ready. Suggestion on details in scholarship emails

Hello, I was a former Wikimania scholarship recipient. To put it briefly, the Wikimania experience was something that I deeply value and will forever cherish. Somewhat sadly though, it is only after quite some years after Wikimania that I actually realised the value of the scholarship award (in monetary terms), that too with loose estimates done by myself purely out of curiosity. Would it make sense to include the approximate total monetary value of the scholarship award (airfare, lodging, insurance, logistics, etc) within the scholarship award emails to the recipients? I feel this would give much deserving weight in the award itself, as I'm sure many of us isn't aware of the actual amount of resources that is put in a given person's award. Hi all, The Wikimania organizing team is now happy to announce the *Program Design* <https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2019:Program_design> of Wikimania 2019! We believe that this year’s conference theme <https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2019:Theme> requires a format that is *future-oriented, collaborative, active, and focused on practical problem-solving. *The program will therefore consist of a series of parallel *spaces* (or tracks), lead by *leaders,* and through practical training, learning, idea-sharing and cross-cultural collaboration focusing on different *topic areas*. The call for proposals for these *Leaders*, and what they would like to do with those *Spaces*, is NOW OPEN.
