Wikimania in Space

Hello fellow Wikimania-goers, I can’t wait to see you all in Stockholm next week. Excited to meet those of you I haven’t, to connect with those of you I have, to perhaps sample some Surströmming [1] with the most adventurous of you? Why not! For those of you I haven’t met yet, I’m Elena Lappen with the Community Relations team at the Foundation. Our team works on projects that connect volunteers across the movement and keep communication flowing between Foundation staff and community members. I wanted to write because our team recently launched Wikimedia Space [2], a platform being developed around the needs of movement organizers, newcomers, volunteers in underrepresented regions, and volunteers in underserved groups. I think it can support the work of many of you, leading up to Wikimania, during Wikimania, and beyond. Many Learning Days participants and general Wikimania attendees have already started signing up in order to coordinate before the event. Wikimedia Space is a platform facilitating community exchange, made up of a blog and a forum. The blog publishes news by the movement, for the movement. The forum has moderated discussion boards with discussion facilitation tools, as well as a movement-wide map [3] and calendar [4], where you’ll see that other movement organizers have already started posting their events. The forum also accommodates closed groups, to allow for private collaboration between trusted peers. Signing up is easy [5]. Dear Sir, I thank you for your answer. I was mainly interested in the medical side of the biomedical use of Wikidata as the session was included in the Health space. It is sure that attendees with limited medical knowledge will suffer a bit. However, I will simplify and explain the medical information during the session when needed. Concerning your first comment, the word "relations" is widely used in Biomedical Informatics domain to mean associations, relationships, statements or links. Support for my UK Transit visa application

Free books for a university in your city/country

[writing with my volunteer hat on.] Hi all, This email is not Wikimedia related, but I still would like to send it to those who will attend Wikimania. I hope it's fine to share this here. I will bring somewhere between 50-100 (depending on weight) Web/Data Mining/Algorithms related books (all in English) with me when I attend Wikimania next week. I will give these books for free to some folks who accept to take them back to a university in their country as long as the country is considered undeserved and the university is not very well resourced. As I may get more than 2-3 responses, here's the process I'd like to follow: If you're interested to be the person who takes some books back to a university in your country, please send me offlist the following information: * How many books (how heavy:) can you take with you back to your country? * Which university (and which library) do you intend to donate the books to? Name, city, country. I will then review this information with Ricardo Baeza-Yates [1] and we choose a few universities from the list we gather to donate the books to through you. I need to hear from you no later than August 10 if you're interested to be considered for receiving some books.
