Dear all,
I'm writing to remember that there are volunteers in Malpensa Airport. They
are in Terminal 1, near exit A and B. If you arrive in Terminal 2 you have
to take a shuttle to T1.

Hi,
As I am preparing to leave, I was checking a few basic things, which I
couldn't find in the documentation
<https://wikimania2016.wikimedia.org/wiki/Accommodation/Esino_Lario>. Maybe
it is obvious, or I overlooked it - apologies in that case.
I was wondering what exactly is provided for in the accommodation. It's
shared and simple rooms, probably with shared bathrooms etc. Could you
confirm it's a cheap hotel-like setting, where bed sheets, towels etc are
provided for? It would save me luggage, so that would be great :) And am I
correct to assume that toiletries are available somewhere in the village if
need be?
Thanks for confirming!
Best,
Lodewijk
dear all
please note that the train at 18.20 from Milano centrale to Varenna-Esino is really bad: the train schedule has changed and this train requires a change in Lecco. Please try to avoid it
please check again the timetable you find here https://wikimania2016.wikimedia.org/wiki/Journey/Varenna_Esino_busses

Hi everyone,
we wanted to let you know, that we put up a site on Meta Wiki for our
Project "Mapping OER * – *creating free educational material together",
which started in April 2015 and ended this February.
In 2015 we secured the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as a
highly prestigious partner for this pilot project and thus took a step
forward in establishing Wikipedia’s participatory principle in the German
education system and in all areas of life-long learning.
The Mapping OER project was about initiating innovation processes in
various areas of education by securing a wider network of actors across
different disciplines and ensuring practical application. The project was
therefore characterized by two key elements: a multi-stakeholder approach
and open innovation, in line with WMDE’s working methods and basic
principles.
Find out more about it here:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Deutschland/Mapping_OER
Leave us a comment or write us an email.
What is your opinion on this approach and what are your experiences?
Any suggestions or questions?
I'll be at Wikimania 2016, so if you wanna talk about OER, the project or
Open Education in general, let's meet up there!
Looking forward to meet some of you in person (again).
Greetings,
Valentin

Dear organizers,
During your bid, you claimed that Telecom Italia will connect a 1Gbps fibre cable to the hill town of Esino Lario for wikimania and beyond, so I wonder whether this means it's only TIM got mobile signal there or whether all mobile operators including Vodafone, WIND and 3 Italia will also have service in the area?
I also believe that a mesh like wifi network will be in place?
Best regards,
Alan Lai (id:28481k)
I've been following the long-range forecasts and it appears that we can
expect the following during the course of our visit to this little village
in the Italian Alps:
- Daytime high temperatures between 16 and 20 degrees Celsius (62-28
degrees Fahrenheit for our American colleagues). For many of us this is
"hoodie" weather, and it appears this is a bit cooler than average for this
time of the year.
- Night time temperatures between 7-9 degrees Celsius (45-52 degrees
Fahrenheit).
- Short periods of rain, possibly including a thunderstorm, on many
days. Most likely to occur in the later afternoon. The rest of the time,
we're likely to see glorious sunshine.
Whatever else we might want to grumble about, our convenors cannot be
blamed for the weather. Looks like it will be a good idea to pack some
layers, something that can handle a heavy downpour of rain, and maybe some
sunscreen too.
Looking forward to seeing everyone in a couple of days.

Hi,
We just decided to hire a car - as we arrive to Orio (Bergamo airport) - at
20:50 pm. on 21-st, and it seems that there is no public transport to Esino
nor shuttle busses (the last one is at 7 pm). There are 3 of us - so if
anyone wants to join us (with small luggage, as it is going to be Fiat
Panda) - please contact me directly.
Cheers,
