Hullo everyone,
I am offering a 90-minutes session called "Wikidata for Absolute Beginners:
What is it good for, and why is it Really Super Exciting?", *today* (Thursday)
at *3:30pm (sharp)* at the *Collaboration Space* (where Learning Day was).
If you've never really gotten into Wikidata, or have only been using it for
interwiki links, or just want to get inspired about what Wikidata can be
used for, do come!
Cheers,
Asaf

In a few hours, I'm giving a short intro to the Encyclopedia of World
Problems and Human Potential, a collection of world problems and
humanitarian initiatives. If you have worked with global census,
environmental, scientific or humanitarian datasets, or have synchronized
other historical encyclopedias with WP: your input is wanted!
http://uia.org/encyclopedia
This cool reference was the result of one of Paul Otlet's projects from the
20th century, the Union of International Associations. It has ~60,000
articles at many levels of abstraction, along with links to related data
sources and network information about which problems influence which other
ones.
The EWPHP has just been released under a BY-SA license, and a small team is
trying to wikify it, integrate its sources with wikidata, synchronize parts
w/ WP where appropriate, and set up a world-editable interface to it. I
will show you what the current digitized site looks like.
When: 1700
Where: Room 40 of the Primary School

The lead developer of the editable version, Tomáš Fülöpp, will also be
coming to Wikimania this weekend, to meet with interested people.

Someone from the WMF left a MiFi on the shuttle bus from Varenna. Please
see Sarah Malik who has it. She is located today at Rosa delli Alpi where
board meeting is being held.

Pizzeria Oasi seems to be the right place to watch football. They have two
huge screens.
Maybe, we could ask to show both matches (Italy/Ireland and Belgium/Sweden).

There's been a strange silence concerning Euro 2016. Are there any football
fans? Are the locals going to watch Italy--Ireland today? (Football is like
a religion in Italy, reportedly...) How about other matches, especially the
knockout phase? Any proposals?

Hi everyone,
are you still looking for some interesting to do this afternoon? Well,
perhaps this is for you: like last year, we host a workshop for creating
animated explainer videos for Wikimedia projects:
https://wikimania2016.wikimedia.org/wiki/Explainer_Video_Workshop
*Start: 2pm in the museum (53)***
Videos have become a popular format for the dissemination of information
- especially short animated explainer videos which provide a quick
overview over complex topics. The same principle applies to Wikipedia:
videos can enrich exisiting content and provide an entertaining and
easily comprehensible access to free knowledge. Together with experts
from the simpleshow foundation Wikimedia Österreich offers workshops for
Wikimedians which are designed to learn the tricks of the trade of
screenwriting for explainer videos.
The workshop might also be interested for people who attended last year,
as we will also introduce a new freeware, which enables you to produce
the videos yourself!
Content of the workshop
* Interested participants will learn the basic skills for creating
plots of explainer videos: how to explain complex topics in a short and
comprehensible way, how to work with cut-out animation, storyboard
conception and visualization.
* The participants can create and refine their scripts and
storyboards together with the simpleshow foundation after the workshop.
* Depending on the topic & previous research participants can turn
their scipts directly into an ilustrated video using
“mysimpleshow”-freeware.
* The realization and production of the finished storyboard could
be done either using the “mysimpleshow”-freeware or by the simpleshow
foundation. The result will be published under the CC-BY-SA license on
Wikimedia Commons.
* The screenwriters can use the videos for Wikipedia articles and
other purposes.
What do you need?
* Interest in storytelling
* A topic for an explainer video
* No previous knowledge in screenwriting or video production necessary

Hi everyone,
I will be taking the train from Milano Centrale to Varenna-Esino on June 22, at 16:34. Is there anyone who wants to join me? I would feel much better if I knew someone going that way. I've already bought the train tickets, by the way.
I'm looking forward to seeing you all in Esino Lario! 😃

Andrew, this happened to me but it was because I was in the wrong terminal.
If you're in Terminal 2, you should go to Terminal 1.

Sorry to bother the whole list - are there or will there be blue shirt
volunteers at MXP today, Thursday? I've been looking around for over an
hour with no sign of them and I have a ticket booked via the airport
transfers sold by the organizing team via Eventbrite.
If not, I'll abandon the ticket and make my way to Esino by other transport
but I need to know. Anyone who can let the powers that be know, thanks.
