G'day folks,
The Independent reports:
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/europe/frances-favourite-encyclopaedia-fa…
"The brave new world of instant enlightenment at the touch of a computer key
has claimed a heavyweight victim. The 2008 edition of Quid, France's
favourite encyclopaedia, has been cancelled by its publisher for lack of
interest. The annual sales of the 2,000-page tome, which reached more than
400,000 in the mid-1990s, collapsed to just over 100,000 last year. "
More in story.
Regards

I wouldn't think so, given that "Islamophobia" is an inherently POV
designation, and is Original Research when applied to a situation
where the word wasn't actually used directly in the original source.
The link is probably a reliable reference for an assertion that some
officials claiming to speak for some Muslims are still critical of
Wikipedia for the cartoon controversy issue (in addition to the
current flap over Muhammad images), but that's still a long stretch
from declaring Wikipedia to be "Islamophobic".
Incidentally, the set of Muslims who are disturbed at Wikipedia
including the cartoon images and the set of Muslims disturbed at
Wikipedia including the Muhammad images are different sets; the
Iranians apparently don't mind depictions of Muhammad (if tasteful
and respectful), since they have some such images in their own
museums.

You know, with all the controversy surrounding the Muhammad images right
now, it is kind of insensitive to link to an image of Muhammad from the main
page of Wikipedia.
Yet, Did you know ... #2 does just that. [[Muhammad in Mecca]]
So please, reassure me that this was just stupidity, and not just
insensitivity.

o_0 Er, no, I'd be referring to the "several thousand" people who put

I was looking at this last night.
I tested adding a signature and it doesn't validate the information.
While I was messing around, at least 20 "people" added signatures in less
than a minute.
Since there's no validation, I was considering *how* one could show that
these are being adding programatically. It's interesting how many are coming
from Pakistan for example.
Another odd thing I noticed, was that the associated *blog* has such a
paltry amount of traffic. One would think that with 200 thousand signatures, at
least a few would add extra comments. I don't know maybe I'm just too
skeptical.

Sometimes there are sides who will not be satisfied, no matter what the

So I wouldn't characterize NPOV as this.

Now might be an interesting time to mention the usual excuse when
religious fanatics are blowing up a market, an embassy or a subway
train: Islam means peace.
Did I say excuse? I am sorry, I meant refutation. The excuse is
usually a variation of "You offended me".
Next time, one out 1 billion muslims forgets his/her good manners, the
ones responsible are: You, Wikipedians, thanks to our policy to spread
knowledge (which we all know is the greatest enemy any kind of
religion).
A nice place to observe peacefulness under the label of a religion can
be found at a petition
http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?mjk123&1 to the
"Wikepedia Authorities" to apply sharia to wikipedia.org content, as
interpreted by the undersigned. The petition can be found at

So far no one has addressed my most cogent point.
The law in Islam is against *all* images of humans.
Not just Muhammed.
