Hi,
Saw mention of the Geo-coordinates feature being live on the IRC chat today.
Apologies if this is a dumb question:
How does one access and/or apply coordinates on Wikidata?
I would like to add these or figure out a way to create a pathway between Wiki pages with coordinates and Wikidata. We use coordinates on most of our event pages and thought it could be fun to create maps or something.... Plus one of the editors in our chapter geotags everything and is a heavy Commons user so thought it would be fun for him too....
Also, saw some weird red Lua errors on this page.

Hi!
How does one access and/or apply coordinates on Wikidata?
There are properties that have coordinate values. The most important is P625. See: https://tools.wmflabs.org/sqid/#/browse?activepage=1&type=properties&...

I think a bot could definitely do that, and e.g. pywikibot has classes to create/edit coordinate values.

This page is kind of hard to use (and huge, probably that's why Lua is unhappy) - I'd recommend using a tool like SQUID above (https://tools.wmflabs.org/sqid) - much nicer way to approach it IMO.
Thanks so much Stas. Apologies for not following up sooner.
I think in order for this to work, we would need to create Wikidata pages that link to Wikipedia:Meetup event pages, I think.
1. Is this possible?
2. Do other chapters do this?
We don't typically use Meta #shudder for event pages so it's all on-Wiki (en-Wiki) for maximum editor onboarding. So that might be an advantage.
Thanks again for the links and assistance.
Best,
- Erika

I apologize, but I am completely lost. Why adding coordinates to Wikidata (smth I do on a pretty regular basis for instance) would have smth to do with meetups or chapters? Or is there some context I am totally missing?
Cheers Yaroslav
Hoi, There is no problem in indicating that a Wikimania or whatever meeting is in a given location. It has a GPS location and that should imho suffice. Thanks, GerardM

I guess inspired by AddShore's gorgeous maps he has posted to Twitter, I thought it might be a great way to do data visualization of the different geographic locations the NYC chapter is assisting with editathons, as we sometimes do events in the tri-state area as well as remotely.
It seems like it's just data, and that Wikidata is ideally a repository for the semantic information on Wikipedia pages, unless I am completely misunderstanding the purpose of Wikidata? So why not add any data that is consistently available.
I have been trying to normalize and systematize our event pages -- and use that information to present metrics as well as information in support of our new Annual Plan Grant. For instance, we use infoboxes very consistently, as well as typical Event information sections. The metrics interface we are using doesn't capture that data, which could be valuable -- or just another way for Wikidata to be used?
I am coming from the Wikipedia editor perspective, obviously, so this is probably very strange to most Wikidatans. Maybe it is also pointless. I am trying to use Wikidata more. I am very frustrated by it, frankly. #whinge
I can see that Art+Feminism as well as a bunch of other chapters in Asia are doing Wikidata pages for their event pages. I've started to investigate. Adding coordiinates seems logical.
