Hoi, Next week an API will become available at Open Library that provides their available books for an author based on their identifier. This will allow us (if they want it) to provide these books through {{authority control}} on the English Wikipedia and others when they care to have this.
What I have asked the OL is to provide their identifier per author, combined with the ISBN for an author. When the OCLC or anyone else runs a process to identify the associated VIAF (maybe later the Wikidata) identifiers we have made a next step.
What I have also asked the Open Library is if they can provide us with names in the local language of the publications. This allows us to ask people who know the language using Mix'n Match to identify the authors and maybe add Wikidata items. When we then iterate this process with the OCLC (or whoever) to add the VIAF identifiers, we slowly but surely provide a better service to all the readers of the world.
I do care that people read and make the best possible use of the services of the Open Library, all the libraries in the world or our projects. Our aim is to share in the sum of all knowledge. Making this possible with Wikidata makes me proud to be involved in Wikidata. Thanks, GerardM
PS More details next week.

what do you mean for "ISBN for an author"?
maybe you might be interested in this simple api wrapper[1] i made few months ago. it combines OCLC Classify API[2] and the wikidata sparql to get authors (and their viaf and wikidata id) from a book's ISBN.
example:
Concrete Island, JG Ballard https://www.worldcat.org/title/concrete-island/oclc/934107293 ISBN-13 9780007287048
$ curl https://isbn-authors.herokuapp.com/api/v1/authors/9780007287048 [ { "name": "Ballard, J. G., 1930-2009", "viaf": "9842556", "wikidata_id": "Q140201" } ]
(note: the example api is hosted on heroku free tier, and is quite slow)

Hoi, This function is for OL to get a VIAF for every author with a book they know the isbn for. Getting a Wikidata identificeren is great but additional.
Adding this info to the OL database is the objective. Adding the Wikidata identifier is also relevant. It is how OL gets a better connection between our projects.
It may be a start for a good synchronsation between our projects. As a tool we could provide a tool where we enter an ISDN and get the VIAF in return. Thanks, GerardM

Hoi,
Thanks Raffale :)
A lot of things have happened in the last 24 hours. The Open Library JSON is now in production and another JSON provides for the books for the author. I am really excited about what becomes possible and wrote another blogpost [1] including all relevant information.
I hope you will all be happy with the progress. If there is anything more we can do; please let us know. Thanks, GerardM

I'm not sure but VIAF does tie publications to the creators -- it's in the middle of the VIAF entry. Maybe that's what Gerard is talking about?
