We've just rolled out an update to the codebase on wikidata.org. The
most important new features and bugfixes for you are probably:
* Diffs for claim edits are no longer empty
* Entity selector now lets you see all results so you can add all
properties and items to claims without workarounds
* Ability to add items and properties by their ID as well, not just their label
* Automatic comments are set for edits of claims
* Fix for the "edit links" link in non-main namespace articles
And as a small weekend project:
* You can now have a table near the top of each item showing labels
and descriptions in other languages you speak. FOr this to work you
need to add a BabelBox to your userpage. Check mine
(http://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Lydia_Pintscher_(WMDE)) for how
this looks like if you're not familiar with it.

Hi everyone,
If you hadn't heard, the Wikimedia Foundation has started the first round
of what is planned to be be a twice-annual program to fund individuals and
small groups to work on projects that further the WMF's goals - "individual
engagement grants":

I have a proposal currently in place for a project that relates to
Wikidata. It's a Javascript "data browser", that would provide a drill-down
interface to let users navigate through the data of Wikipedia, Wikidata,
and any standard MediaWiki-based wiki, without overloading the server with
queries. This would be accomplished by using browser-based data storage,
which would also enable fast navigation on mobile devices, and even offline
use. The downside is that it would mean, for the case of
Wikipedia/Wikidata, that it could only store a small fraction of the
overall data; but there could be multiple "apps" for different subject
matters - one for cars, one for buildings, one for politicians, and so on.

= Other Noteworthy Stuff =
* We have a time scheduled when Wikidata will be read-only for a
database migration. The window for that is Feb 20 19:00 to Feb 21 2:00
UTC.
* New features and bugfixes on Wikidata are planned to be deployed on
Monday (Feb 18). This should among other things include:
** Showing useful diffs for edits of claims (they’re currently empty)
** Automatic comments for editing of claims (there are currently none)
** Ability to add items to claims by their ID
** Better handling of deleted properties
** More results in the entity selector (that’s the thing that lets you
select properties, items and so on) so you can add everything and not
just the first few matches that are shown
* We’re still working on the issue that sometimes editing of certain
parts of items or properties isn’t possible. If you’re running into it
try to reload the page and/or change the URL to the www. version or
the non-www. version respectively.
* Deployment on all other Wikipedias is currently planned for March 6
(a note to the Village Pumps of all affected projects will follow
soon)
