on Monday, I was notified that CERN have started to put some images under Wikimedia-compatible licenses: https://cds.cern.ch/search?ln=en&cc=Creative+Commons+Images+from+CERN&am... .
They are starting with a really small batch to test the ground (just 21 files right now, of which three are already up at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Media_from_CERN ) but there is hope that this will be scaled up soon.

that is quite some news:the inventor of the so called www web has released some images. It seems so much easier for scientists to enter the field of open access than to the guardians of cultural heritage.
