It's now planned for October 5-6. It would be great for European
Wikimedia experts to go and teach people about the MediaWiki API,
uploading tools, Commons gadgets, and so on.

Claire Ross attended MuseumNext and was the only other presentation about
QR codes other than ours (which was of course detailing QRpedia.) At
MuseumNext all were impressed with the scan rates Alex and I shared - and
we were explicit in explaining that Wikipedia was an important factor in
the success of these QR codes. People know what they're getting when they
scan the codes, and it's worth overcoming all of the potential barriers of
QR in order to reach that Wikipedia article.
Claire wrote up a post summarizing the successes of QR in museums, and
QRpedia is front and center:
http://claireyross.wordpress.com/2012/06/11/what-does-success-look-like-for…
My favorite quote?
These QRpedia <http://qrpedia.org/> examples, with really impressive scan
numbers give QR code use in Museums hope. However *when not linked with
Wikipedia, QR code usage leaves a lot to be desired.** *
This is the same conclusion that the Brooklyn Museum came to when they
recently nearly gave up on QR codes in their museum, only to find our
QRpedia case studies and realize that linking to Wikipedia is the trick
that will drive higher usage. This resulted in their implementing WikiLink
a month or so ago.
With QRpedia continuing to explode, especially thanks to the recent success
of Monmouthpedia, I thought it was important to point out again that it *is
*Wikipedia that is increasing relevance for QR in general. And that's great
news for us! : )

dear all
with WikiAfrica we are trying to get contents and data on African cities, villages and territories on Wikipedia.
1. Marcok is working on putting together the available data http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progetto:Amministrazioni/Africa/Fonti#Collegam…
2. with the support of the University of Cape Town/African Center for Cities (Edgar Pieterse and Ismail Farouk) we are got in contact with Paul Sinclair, director of studies at the Uppsala University/Department of Archaeology and Ancient History. Paul Sinclair has been working on African cities for many years. I also contacted UN-Habitat.
3. m.casanova is collaborating in editing the data to produce the necessary CVS files.
4. we will make a test on Wikipedia in Italian (there are around 10 volunteers currently involved)
the idea is to create articles on African cities, villages and territories on wikipedia in all African languages (which include of course also English, French...). we plan to also provide the data for the German data project when possible and useful.
We would be really pleased if you can contact us if you have ideas, suggestions or links to existing databases (or to GLAMs we can contact to have access to data). please do not hesitate to forward the message to people who might be interested in the initiative.
thanks

I definitely feel that this contextualization of NARA's Open Government
Plan deserves to be shared on the public lists, not just on the private
list! : ) So I was bold and forwarded.
It's really, truly amazing to see NARA's deep and ongoing engagement with
Wikimedia to be so tangibly represented in this important document. Thank
you for sharing, and especially for sharing your thoughts on NARA's journey
with Wikimedia. It's a truly model partnership that every cultural
institution should work hard to emulate in whatever capacity they can.
Great work as always Dominic!

Hello Everybody,****
The buzz is almost palpable, the Wikipedia Loves Libraries (WLL) event at
Wikimania preconference is now scheduled.****
** **
*What it is:*
We have planned riveting presentations form both the Wikipedian and
Librarians perspectives on the history of WLL, followed by a discussion and
strategy meeting for the future of the program. The first half and hour
will be a Workshop for Librarians titled: *Behind The Secret Door:
Wikipedia Information Literacy for Librarians*****
* *
*Abstract: *
Librarians are domain experts in classic information literacy, and much of
that expertise can be applied to Wikipedia if only one knows where to
click. Without even learning how to edit, there are a plethora of useful
tools built into - and onto - Wikipedia that can help you understand more
about the articles. With this workshop you will learn to view and
understand: the complete revision history of an article, the discussion
taking place on the content, the quality rating of an article, the
viewership statistics, which other articles link to it, and Wikipedia's
category system. Plus you'll have the opportunity to ask questions in a
supportive environment.****
** **
*Where and When:*
Wednesday 11th of July 2012 from 1pm-4pm.****
*International Brotherhood of Teamsters Labor History Research
Center<http://maps.google.com/maps/place?q=Gelman+Library+room+702+George+Washingt…>
*
Gelman Library room 702****
George Washington University****
2130 H St. NW Washington, DC 20052****
* *
* *
*What you can do until then:*
**1. **Show your intent to attend:

****
**2. ** Add topics to the agenda that you’d like to discuss:
