Dear fellow Wikimedians,
It has been a remarkable six months since WikiIndaba, and three months since the Wikimedia Conference. I am so excited by what the African community has accomplished during this period, and what we have yet to achieve!
I am so grateful for the L2K and how it has inspired the movement and Foundation. We have referred back to it on so many occasions through the global strategy process. And of course, it inspired the Latin American community with their own post-Iberoconf letter, the Carta de Buenos Aires [1].
In order to properly recognize the L2K, and the importance of the African community, I would like to acknowledge both it and the Carta with a formal response while we are at Wikimania. The response will be timed to accompany the presentation that I intend to give along with Christophe Henner, our Wikimedia Foundation Board Chair.
In the meantime, I know that you have been in close coordination with Jack and other Foundation colleagues through the office hours and other collaborations. Internally within the Foundation, the themes of the L2K have been present in our conversations around strategy, program, and community planning.
I am so grateful for your voice, and the representation of Africa in the community, and your continued work on behalf of our movement.
Yours, Katherine
