*Subject:* [African Wikimedians] New keyboards: Ewe, Fon, Hausa, Igbo,
Yoruba
Hi!
I'm very happy to announce that the keyboard support for five languages of
Africa has improved!
The languages are Ewe, Fon, Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba. The improved typing
support is usable on any desktop computer with a browser with JavaScript
enabled. It is installed in Wikipedia and all other Wikimedia projects, and
also on
translatewiki.net.
These typing tools don't require the installation of any software on your
computers, or using any key combinations (like Alt or Ctrl). Most special
characters are typed on these keyboards by typing the tilde (~) character
before the special letter.
See the full documentation here:

* Fon:

* Hausa:

Some thanks and credits:
The Fon keyboard was originally made by Mahuton Possoupe at the Barcelona
Hackathon. This week I updated it with some more necessary characters by
Mahuton's request.
The Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba keyboards were requested by User:HandsomeBoy
at
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Wishlist_Survey_2019/Editing/Add_…
.
The keyboard for Ewe was requested by Felix Nartey.
Kartik Mistry was very helpful with reviewing the code for the keyboards,
and of course I thank all the developers of jquery.ime (
https://github.com/wikimedia/jquery.ime/ ), the underlying technology
that was used to make them.
If you have any questions about these keyboards, or if you want to request
keyboard support for more languages, please reach out to me or leave a note
at the talk page:
